The HTC One M8 was a great smartphone but still did not gain the popularity Apple and Samsung received for their phones. HTC is not giving up though, and early this spring they are expected to introduce the HTC One M9.

The One M9 will replicate most of the features on the One M8 but could have a 20 megapixel (MP) camera. if reports from Bloomberg are true. A One M9 with a 20 MP camera could definitely sway some Apple and Samsung buyers over to HTC.

The One M8 had only a 4 MP camera. It was labeled as UltraPixel, whose technology was to make up for the low megapixels. The One M9 could use UltraPixel technology for the front-facing camera for better self-portraits but probably will get rid of it for the rear-facing camera, reports say.

A better camera is not the only thing getting better on the One M9 compared to the One M8; the processor will reportedly do so too. The octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 may replace the M8's quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801.

In addition, the screen is expected to improve too. HTC may use its Sense interface to make the screen's graphics and visualization.

Rumors also say the phone will even get a Dolby 5.1 sound system, The Verge reports.

HTC still has some work to do, however. The company just posted their first quarterly sales growth in three years, which shows the company needs to keep cranking out phones and technology to catch up to Apple and Samsung.

The One M9 could be coming as early as this spring. HTC is expected to unveil the phone March 1 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
