Naya Rivera Glee Spinoff? Santana Lopez Could Get her Own Show After Series Finale Next Season
Naya Rivera, who plays the bad girl Santana Lopez on Fox's Glee, has recently said that she would be open to a Glee spinoff.
After news, shared by the show's creator Ryan Murphy, that the series will come to a close after next season, Rapper Big Sean's future wife revealed her hopes for her alter ego Santana at the Elle's Women in Hollywood Gala on Monday, October 21st in Beverly Hills.
"She can do anything. That's the beauty of Santana," Rivera stated about the character.
Santana, who grew from her minor role as Quinn Fabray's (Dianna Argon) sidekick in the pilot episode to a major force to be reckoned with, could easily carry a series independently of her glee club buddies.
Her high-octane personality coupled with her stunning looks allowed her to quickly rise through the ranks, and become one of the most recognizable characters on the show. Also, Santana could certainly be described as one of more fleshed and complex characters out many of the show's leads, certainly more that Rachel Berry, who has single-track ambition and no mystery.
Her initial man-eater pursuit of Finn (Cory Monteith) and Puck (Mark Salling); her quiet betrayals of the Glee club as one of Sue Sylvester's (Jane Lynch) minions; her blossoming interest and, then, romantic relationship with her best friend Brittany Pierce (Heather Morris); her heartbreak because grandmother's disapproval of her sexuality; her joy because of her mother's (Gloria Estefan) unconditional support of her dreams; her confronting Kitty Wilde (Becca Tobin) who body shamed another student into being anorexic; and her evolving friendship with Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michelle) are just some of the plot points that show how her character budded over the duration of the show.
Now in New York, with the world open to her, who knows what kind of trouble that the former-New Direction singer can get into.
