The staff of a South Florida hospital is facing tough questions after a teen was caught passing himself off as a doctor for an entire month.

According to 7News of Miami, detectives said a real doctor by the name of Dr. Sebastian Kent busted the alleged imposter on Tuesday.

"According to multiple nurses and Dr. Sebastian Kent, the real 'doctor' inside the OB-GYN office, [the fake doctor] was inside the examination room with [the patient] when Dr. Kent conducted an exam," the police report reads.

Kent then became suspicious and notified security, who called police.

Officials at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach told 7News the teen is 17 years old. His name is not being released since he is a juvenile. He alluded detection by hospital staff for a whole month by wearing a white coat with the hospital's logo and "anesthesiology" embroidered on the front and carrying a stethoscope, according to police.

"The individual never had contact with any hospital patients and did not gain access to any patient care areas of the hospital at any time. The hospital immediately notified local authorities, who took the individual into custody, and we are cooperating with their ongoing investigation," St. Mary's Medical Center officials said in a statement.

Investigators said hospital employees thought the teen was a real doctor.

"Multiple people have seen [the fake doctor] walking around the hospital for approximately one month pretending to be a doctor," the police report states. "Surveillance video inside SMMC shows [the fake doctor] walking around hospital wings, but never entering any rooms or seeing any patients."

The teen told police that he has been a doctor for "years," and that his family could verify the fact, the Sun Sentinel reports.

An OB/GYN doctor told police he had not seen the teen at the hospital but discovered a note from the boy on his desk asking the doctor to "shadow" him.

Police called the teen's mother, who told officers her son is under a physician's care but refuses to take his medication.

Since no crime was committed, police and the hospital have decided not to press charges against the teenager.
