Before a customer can secure a Zipcar though, they have to join on Zipcar.com and pay an annual membership fee. From there, the customer is sent a Zipcard in the mail or through the Zipcar app.
The user then starts looking for Zipcar lots, either online or through the app. Once they find a car and location they like, they simply take their Zipcard up to the car and tap the car and the car opens. The keys will be attached to the steering wheel on a rope.
Everything else is a relative breeze with Zipcar. Insurance and gas are included, and so is up to 180 miles of driving. You rent the car by the half hour and can rent it up to seven days.
Zipcar prices vary from city to city but usually are under $10 per hour to use a car.
The type of car a user will get will also vary. Once a customer gets the app or uses the website, they will be able to know exactly what kind of car they will be securing.
Now that Zipcar is becoming a standard way to borrow cars, people are starting to really enjoy the service. Hertz took notice of this in 2013 and purchased Zipcar for $500 million in cash.
