Resident Evil HD Remaster PS3, PS4 Release Date: Survival Horror Classic Review Roundup
"Resident Evil" is, without a doubt, the game that shot the survivial horror genre into superstardom back in the mid 1990s. Though it didn't create the genre, it certainly popularized it. Now, many years later, "Resident Evil" is both a video game series, and a film franchise. In short, the game is now a household name.
Back in 2002, the first "Resident Evil" received a makeover in the form of a remake that was released exclusively for the Nintendo Gamecube. The revised version of "Resident Evil" featured new content, upgraded graphics, and a host of other changes. It was so well received by gamers and critics alike, in fact, that some dubbed it the best "Resident Evil" game ever made.
Now, we're in similar territory once again.
Today marks the release of "Resident Evil HD Remaster," a second remake of the original "Resident Evil" that is available for every major current and previous-generation gaming platform, including the PC. Like the Gamecube-centric remake before it, 'Resident Evil HD Remaster" aims to put a new spin on an old favorite.
So how's it doing so far?
Here, we round up notable quotes and conclusions from respected gaming publications all over, from GameInformer, to Destructoid, and points in between.
Resident Evil HD Remaster Review Roundup
IGN: "Resident Evil relies on atmosphere, tough limitations, and danger creeping around all corners, and this port recaptures the formula of a classic, relentless survival-horror game."
GameInformer: "One of the greatest horror games of all time becomes even better."
Destructoid: "The models look great, especially on a high-end PC with all of the settings jacked up. It blows the GameCube version out of the water, and looks incredibly smooth and fluid."
PCGamer: "A brilliant, brutal survival horror dripping in atmosphere. It's from the oldest of schools, but still offers a rewarding challenge."
Eurogamer Italy: "After almost 20 years the king of survival horror is back for both the new and old generations and it's still a great experience. Hail to the king!" (Google Chrome features built in language translation.)
Resident Evil HD will be released on Jan. 20.
