NBC 'Celebrity Apprentice' 2015 Cast and Spoilers: Joan Rivers Makes Season 14 Debut Months After Her Death [Watch]
Joan Rivers, known for her quick wit and audacious comments, was a surprisingly subdued during Season 14, Episode 4 of "Celebrity Apprentice," which aired on Monday, where she served as a guest in Donald Trump's notorious boardroom.
People magazine reports the episode is the first of several appearances Rivers filmed for the show before her sudden death at age 81 in September. The episode featuring her next appearance will air in February.
Trump's daughter, Ivanka, previously told People that Rivers was "very warm and very maternal and very protective of all of the contestants."
Ivanka's shoe collection was the inspiration behind this week's project that had teams scrabbling to create a mobile shoe boutique.
Rivers praised Geraldo Rivera and Vivica A. Fox for their "energy, force and decisiveness." She even said Fox had "great leadership," even though the second-time project manager had to bring two team members into the boardroom.
River's daughter and fellow "Celebrity Apprentice" competitor, Melissa, watched the episode and tweeted her gratitude to the Trumps for their "kindness and support."
When Rivers made her debut on "Celebrity Apprentice" in 2009, she was hired, and poker champ Annie Duke was fired in the final faceoff. Rivers planned a better fundraiser and won $250,000 for her chosen charity, God's Love We Deliver, which brings meals to homebound and seriously ill people.
The dialogue between Rivers and Duke wasn't pretty.
Before Duke heard host Trump say, "You're fired," she and Rivers sat across the boardroom table from Trump and things hot heated.
"You are a two-faced person," Rivers told
Duke. "You have said I'm a cancer. You said you hoped I would die. You never said it to my face!"
"For six boardrooms, I sat here and acted professional," said Duke, holding onto her composure.
"Professional-ly," Rivers corrected.
"And there's only so much a girl can take," Duke countered.
"You're not a girl anymore, darling," Rivers said. "You're a woman."
It's difficult to know if the rift was for the cameras or real, but in the show's final seconds, Rivers gave Duke a hug.
