Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Casting Rumors 2013: Luke Grimes of 'True Blood' to Play Christian Grey's Brother Elliot
Luke Grimes has been cast as Elliot Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Variety first reported the news, and the official Fifty Shades of Grey Twitter page confirmed it.
"Get ready to be swept off your feet. Welcome Luke Grimes to #TeamFifty as Elliot Grey! #FiftyShades," the tweet said.
Grimes is known best for playing James in HBO's "True Blood." The actor has also appeared in 2012's Taken 2 and the ABC series "Brothers & Sisters."
Elliot Grey is the brother of Christian Grey, the lead male played by Jamie Dornan. Christian is a kinky businessman who introduces naïve Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson, to the pleasures of liberated sex. Jennifer Ehle will play Carla, Anastasia's mother.
Filming for Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to begin Nov. 13, but there are still several roles that need to be filled, such as Anastasia's roommate, Kate, and Christian's bodyguard.
Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the Focus Features and Universal Pictures movie, which is based off of E.L. James' erotic bestseller of the same name. The script was written by Kelly Marcel. Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and James herself will produce.
Originally, Hunnam, from the FX's "Sons of Anarchy" was selected to play Christian Grey, but on Oct. 12, Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced that Hunnam backed out due to a busy TV schedule.
Recently, Hunnam spoke out for the first time since leaving Fifty Shades of Grey, saying that filming the final season of "Sons" has kept him busy. Rumors, on the other hand, claim that Hunnam was turned off by the pressure of fulfilling millions' of readers expectations and that he wanted more creative control.
Fifty Shades of Grey will be released Aug. 1, 2014.
