Those wishing to have the iPad Mini with Retina Display for Christmas may have to change their wish list. Tim Cook had allegedly claimed that this year's Christmas will be an iPad Christmas. It seems now that he spoke too soon. According to CNET, this may be partially true, for those wanting the larger iPads or the iPad mini without the retina display. However, those who would like to open a new iPad mini with retina display under the Christmas tree are likely to be disappointed.

During a conference call on Monday and when talking about Apple's 4th Quarter performance, Tim Cook brought up the possible shortages of the new and awaited tablet that is yet to be unveiled. "It's unclear whether we'll have enough for the quarter or not," said Cook. "You never really know the demand until after you start shipping."

This would be disappointing for both the consumers and the Apple company itself. Not having enough supply to meet the demand would mean the company not capitalizing on the shopping season. The reason for the shortage has been attributed to the delay in certifying panel producers.

While the shortage is not definite yet, the deadline needed to meet the demand is going to be very tight. If Apple manages to do it, the company might benefit tremendously, considering how well the company's tablets are performing in the market. According to Apple in an event last week, the company already sold 170 million units of iPad. However, if Apple will not be able to unveil the awaited Ipad Mini with retina display, the company might have to reduce the price to make up.

This is just one of the problems plaguing the company lately.  It has also been recently announced that Samsung already exceeded Apple's global smartphone shipments. While the tablet market is still remarkably Apple's, it remains to be seen if Apple will be able to hold on to this position.
