NBC 'The Voice' TV Show Season 8 Judges & News: Lionel Richie, Ellie Goulding, Nick Jonas, Meghan Trainor Named Coaches' Mentors, Blake Shelton Films Show Drunk
NBC's "The Voice" has reportedly recruited Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas, Ellie Goulding and Lionel Richie to assist its coaches for the show's spring run, reports Us Weekly.
Reports say the pairing will be Richie in the rehearsal room battle round with Pharrell Williams; Goulding will assist Adam Levine; Jonas will team up with returning coach Christina Aguilera; and Trainor will work with Blake Shelton.
Richie is the only musician that has previously served as a guest mentor. He served as mentor alongside Aguilera in Season 2. The other three musicians have been on the Voice stage as performers.
While the reported pairings make sense, the partnership of country star Shelton and pop singer Trainor may seem odd to some fans. Although Trainor is "pop," she lives in Nashville and she has written country tracks for Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes. She and Miranda Lambert took the stage at the CMAs this past November to perform a countrified version of her smash hit "All About That Bass." Trainor knows a thing or two about country.
Season 8 isn't in full swing yet and things are already getting interesting. On Saturday, Shelton tweeted, "Just spent 2 days filming The Voice season 8... Drunk.."
If fans think Shelton is joking, think again. In a November 2014 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shelton and Levine revealed what they drink while on the show. Levine said his drink of choice was coffee. Blake admitted, "I have vodka. I drink vodka on the show. Now that I think of it, every damn brand of vodka has been in that cup. And I don't care if you like it or if anybody likes it, that's what I drink so get over it."
The new season of "The Voice" premieres on Monday, Feb. 23. Aguilera, who gave birth to daughter Summer Rain in August and is presently working on her eighth studio album, is ready to return after a two season absence.
