Andreas Seppi of Italy scored a huge upset on Friday morning, eliminating second seed Roger Federer in Day Five of the 2015 Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Heading into the match as a heavy underdog, Seppi managed to score the biggest upset of the tournament so far as he scored a hard-earned 6-4, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (5) against Federer.

Federer had several chances to extend the match into a fifth set, but Seppi was simply on target on Friday morning, while the 17-time Grand Slam champion was out of sync.

Federer had nine double faults in the match, including a crucial one in the final tiebreaker. With the loss, the Swiss tennis superstar will not play in the semifinal of an Australian Open for the first time since winning the Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 2004.

"I wish I could have played better, but clearly it was tough losing the first two, you know," Federer told reporters. "Had chances to get back into it. I let it slip, I mean, both times in some ways. I guess I won the wrong points out there today. I knew how important that second set tiebreaker was, so clearly that hurt, losing that one."

Seppi, who has not advanced past the second round in his nine previous Australian Open stints, will face Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the fourth round. Kyrgios advanced to the fourth round with a 6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-1 victory over Malek Jaziri of Tunisia.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal did not have any trouble advancing to the next round as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, 7-5 victory against Dudi Sela of Israel in the third-round match.

The second-seeded Nadal, who was almost eliminated in the second by Tim Smyczek of United States, saved seven break points in the match, and the 14-time Grand Slam champion is slowly regaining his rhythm he lost after suffering from wrist injury and appendicitis late last year.

Sixth seed Andy Murray of Great Britain also advanced to the fourth round with a 6-1, 6-1, 7-5 victory over Joao Sousa of Portugal, while seventh seed Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic scored a 6-4 6-3 6-4 win against Viktor Troicki of Serbia.

On the women's side, second-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. Third seed Simona Halep defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands of United States 6-4, 7-5, and Eugenie Bouchard scored a 7-5, 6-0 triumph against Caroline Garcia of France.
