'X-Men: Apocalypse' Movie Plot, News, Rumors & Release Date: 'Game of Thrones' Actress, 2 Others Cast as Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm in New Film
"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer announced via Twitter new additions to the movie's cast on Friday. Three new actors will be playing the roles of the young Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm.
Sophie Turner will join the cast as the young telepath, Jean Grey, originally played by Famke Janssen. Turner is best known for her character, Sansa Stark, in HBO's "Game of Thrones." Turner's co-star Peter Dinklage also made an appearance in the most recent X-Men movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past" as Dr. Bolivar Trask, the film's villain.
Tye Sheridan will play the younger version of Cyclops. The young actor most recently appeared in "The Tree of Life" and "Joe." James Marsden originally played the character.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will also include Alexandra Shipp as the weather-controlling mutant, Storm, previously played by Halle Berry. Shipp is best known for playing singer Aaliyah in last year's Lifetime biopic.
The young actors will join Oscar Isaac, who will play the film's villain, Apocalypse, and returning cast members James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.
Entertainment Weekly speculates the three new young actors may be introduced as a new stage in the X-Men story
Further casting rumors say Channing Tatum will take over Taylor Kitsch's Gambit (he played the mutant in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds may appear as Deadpool.
Although much of the plot is unknown, "X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in the '80s and may serve as a conclusion to the "X-Men: First Class" franchise.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters May 27, 2016.
