It was quite an interesting night for MTV's 2012 Video Music Awards.

Many were critical of Viacom's decision to air the show on the same night as President Obama's acceptance speech. The VMAs have traditionally been held on Sundays, and this year's event was originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 9 and the date was reportedly shifted to Thursday, Sept. 6, to avoid going up against the first Sunday Night Football broadcast of the season.

But once, the show got started, it was one for the headlines.

In an off-camera moment Pop Star Rihanna and R&B Sensation Chris Brown hugged and kissed briefly in front of the entire audience.

MTV.com's "All Access Live" cameras caught the moment when she hugged former boyfriend Brown before patting him on the head.

Last month, Rihanna told Oprah Winfrey that she Chris Brown are "still close" and "will always love each other." The couple broke up following the 2009 attack that included punching, biting and choking.

Rihanna opened the 2012 VMAs with A$AP Rocky and their "Cockiness" remix before going into her big hit "We Found Love."

Rihanna took home the night's biggest prize, Video of the year, for We Found Love featuring Calvin Harris.

"I had an incredible night," she said. "This was definitely top notch from beginning to end. I walked away with a Moonman! The Moonman. "This is big! Thank you guys so much. I love you. MTV has been so supportive. I could not have been here without MTV's support."

Other big winners of the night included singer Demi Lovato who won her first moon-man for "Skyscraper" in the "Best Video With a Message Category."

"I can't even tell you what it means to me," Lovato said. "It's so amazing that I'm actually touching one of these. I always watched the VMAs growing up," she added. "Now I'm holding one. This is crazy."

Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa officially announced they are expecting a child.
