NBA 2013-2014 Season Game Recap - Oct 30 Scores, Results and Winners: Miami Suffers First Loss to Philadelphia
Did Philadelphia just beat the NBA champions in their first game this season? Oh yes, they did! Led by center Spencer Hawes and forward Evan Turner, with 24 and 26 apiece, the 76ers were able to move past the Miami Heat in stunning fashion, beating them 114-110.
The Sixers were firing on all cylinders tonight, sinking their first 11 shots from the tip off, to take the early lead with 26-4. With Philly's first five efforts, the team was able to seal he first with a great lead, 33-14.
The second Q had a different story though, as the Heat pushed to takeover in the second quarter. Led by Chris Bosh, who didn't sit down the entire quarter and posted 8 points and 4 boards in those 12 minutes, the Heat took over 35-18 in the second to keep the Sixers within close distance, 51-49.
The third had LeBron James taking over as the Heat took the lead. The current reigning MVP scored 10 in the quarter, in a 3-4 shooting from the outside. He also dished 7 assists in the quarter. Bosh also had 12 points in the Q and Ray Allen 14, helping the Heat score a record 45 points in the third.
Absent for the game, however, was Miami's leading guard Dwayne Wade who was nursing a sore knee. According to NBA.com, Coach Erik Spoelstra made the decision to sit him out to recover.
"It was not pre-planned, it was something our trainers and coaches came to me with. It's early in the season, it's just a precaution," Wade explained, notes NBA.com.
The fourth was closer than expected, and had the game down to the dying seconds. Hawes shot a three and a layup to grab the lead for Philly, 109-108 with two minutes to go. With only a few possessions left, LeBron and the squad failed to make their succeeding baskets - LeBron turned the ball over at a drive and missed yet another close shot, while Shane Battier was 0-7 at the three, missing another in the dying seconds of the game. James shot 1-6 in the fourth for a poor 2-point output, based on Official NBA game records.
Even with the loss, James posted a double-double with 25 points and 122 assists. Bosh also had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Carter-Williams was the only one to post a double-double for the Sixers, with 22 points and 12 assists. He also had 9 steals.
This is the first win for the 76ers this season, while loss puts Miami in 1-1 after beating the Chiacgo Bulls last night.
The Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers will meet again on the hard court in January 2014.
