Mcdonald's Bagged Coffee To Be Sold in Supermarkets: 12-Ounce Bags of Ground or Whole Beans For $7
If you can't get enough of McDonald's coffee, you're in luck. The fast food restaurant will soon begin selling bagged coffee.
According to Associated Press, McDonald's will starting bagging ground coffee so that drinkers can get the taste of the "McCafe" menu in their own home. McDonald's said it will offer a variety of packaged ground and whole-bean coffee starting next year. Single-serve will also be available. These bags will be available beginning in 2014 in some retail outlets and supermarkets.
Not much else is known about McDonald's bagged coffee plans, but the chain does already sell packaged coffee in Canada. Since late last year, McDonald's has sold bags of coffee that are about 12 ounces and cost $7.
Kraft Foods Group Inc. will help McDonald's distribute its packaged coffee. It has yet to be determined how widespread the product will be.
McDonald's, which is the largest hamburger chain in the world and is based in Oak Brook, Ill., launched its McCafe menu about five years ago. The menu includes frappes and coffees of various flavors. The restaurant has since expanded this menu because it has increased profit margins better than many of McDonald's food items. McCafe also draws everyday customers who are reliant on their daily cup of joe. According to Wall Street Journal, coffee represented 2 percent of McDonald's U.S. sales in 2004. That number jumped to 6 percent more recently.
If the packaged coffee takes off, McDonald's can expect to see even bigger profits. According to Starbucks Corp., U.S. packaged coffee makes $5.6 billion every year.
In Sept. 2012, McDonald's filed for a trademark to use its name on ground and whole-bean coffee via the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
