On Wednesday, "Ghostbusters" reboot director Paul Feig confirmed he close to confirming the cast of the all-female "Ghostbusters" movie, with the studio now in negotiations with "The Skeleton Twins" funny woman Kristen Wiig and fellow "Saturday Night Live" players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

Feig shared a picture of Wiig, Jones, McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy on Twitter before revealing the "Ghostbusters" release date.

"In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date!" he said.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is "still in negotiations."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "St. Vincent" star  McCarthy, who was already in talks with the production team to join the cast as a prospective lead in the film, has officially signed on for the much-anticipated reboot.

With that kind of star-power attached to the film based on Ivan Reitman's 1984 sci-fi fantasy comedy written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, the film could be this year's answer's Feig's 2011 comedy "Bridesmaids," which starred both Wiig and McCarthy.

Following four eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business the follow-up to 1989's "Ghost Busters II" has been in development hell over 25 years. Reitman was on board to return to the franchise, as was original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, all of whom agreed to reprise their characters. However, Bill Murray showed zero interest in returning. When Ramis passed away last year, Reitman abandoned the project, and Sony Pictures approached Feig to direct. Feig then reconceived the project as a reboot starring an all-female cast, Comic Book Resources reported.

In October, Wiig shared her thoughts on being Murray's pick to ghostbust.

"I will do whatever Bill Murray tells me to do," she told Rolling Stone.

Feig also called Murray's picks "an awesome cast," and it appears as if he heeded to half of Murray suggestions.

"I love the first one so much, I don't want to do anything to ruin the memory of that," Feig told Rolling Stone. "So it just felt like, let's just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn't gone through it so it's like, oh my God what's going on?"

In December, Daily Beast reported that Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Lawrence revealed they had been approached for a role in the reboot, while Emma Stone, Amy Schumer and Lizzy Caplan showed interest in appearing in the film.

Feig, who's writing the script with "The Heat" collaborator Katie Dippold, went on record and stated the film will have no connection to the earlier installments of the beloved comedy franchise.

Update: Late Tuesday night, Feig tweeted "In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date!"
