Ford is recalling over 200,000 vehicles because of a door handle issue, the company said Wednesday.

Most of the recall affects the Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Police Interceptor models. The problem discovered involves the possibility of the door handle coming unlatched during a side impact crash. With the door flying open during a side crash, more serious injuries could occur since the cabin would be exposed.

The sedans affected in the recall are almost 205,000 Taurus, MKS and Police Interceptors from the model years of 2010 to 2013.

Ford does not know of any injuries or deaths from the suspected issue.

Dealers will inspect door handles for customers affected by the recall. If needed, dealers will replace the door handles for free.

In a separate recall, Ford is concerned about a little over 16,000 Transit Connect small vans. The model affected is the 2014 version. The vans' seatbelts could be an issue; the seat belt fasteners could loosen, causing the belts to not work properly. Ford does not know of any deaths or injuries due to this issue, and dealers will tighten the seat belt fasteners at no cost to customers.

Ford has had many recalls of their vehicles in the past, according to Edmunds. The Ford Escape model has 10 different recalls on it, varying by year and severity. Other Ford models like the Explorer and Crown Victoria have been hit with recalls as well.

Meanwhile, 2014 was a pretty big year for recalls in the auto industry. In fact, it was the biggest year for recalls ever, ABC News reported in November. More than 52 million cars were recalled.
