Sony announced Wednesday that it is ending support for two PlayStation Vita apps.

The YouTube app will disappear from the PlayStation Store Wednesday, Jan. 28, and will not be supported after April 20. PS Vita users can still watch YouTube videos through the system's browser, however.

The Maps app is also being ousted from PS Vita through a March 2015 software update, which will cause geographic elements of the Near social gaming app to be disabled as well.

According to Sony, the removal of the PlayStation Vita's YouTube and Maps apps will not affect gameplay. The company did not say why it is removing the apps.

Sony also announced Wednesday that both versions of Spotify (free and premium) are coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in the spring. Sony's Music Unlimited subscription service will end on March 29 in all 19 countries to make way for a new service called PlayStation Music. The new music service will allow users to link their Spotify account to their PlayStation Network profile for the purpose of creating their own custom soundtracks while playing video games.

Users will have access to over 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists through PlayStation Music.

"PlayStation Network users will enjoy the convenience of linking your accounts to Spotify, making it easy to sign-up with your existing ID and subscribe to Spotify's Premium service," Sony said.

PlayStation Music featuring Spotify will be available in 41 markets at launch, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

The new music streaming service will launch initially on PS4 and PS3, and later on Xperia smartphones and tablets.

Music Unlimited subscription prior to Feb. 28 will receive up to 30 days of free access through March 29.

Sony promises that "other great features that will be available exclusively through Spotify on PlayStation Music" will be disclosed as the release date approaches.
