Eminem MMLP2 Release Date, Tracklist & Leak Download: Behind the Scenes of the 'Rap God' Music Video
The self-proclaimed rap god is back and is keeping the new music coming. Last week, Eminem filmed the music video for "Rap God," the third single from The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which will be released tomorrow.
Slim Shady dressed simply in a black tracksuit and white sneakers as he grooved to the DVLP-produced beat for "Rap God" in Russell Industrial Center, a Detroit warehouse. Smoke filled the dark building while one camera filmed Eminem and two dozen production crew members kept things running smoothly. Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's manager, and director Rich Lee, who also directed "Not Afraid" and "Lighters," were present.
"Eminem, like a prizefighter about to step into the ring, moved from one corner of the designated floor space to the other corner," Detroit Free Press reported. "Then he'd jump in front of the camera, performing a full, six-minute take. After almost every shot, Eminem would go immediately to one of the video monitors looking for things he liked - and didn't. "
Eminem was an active participant during the filming process.
"He is extremely hands-on but in a collaborative way," Lee said Wednesday. "He likes to hear thoughts and suggestions and play off of ideas that evolve on set. It's amazing to see how his mind works."
Eminem may already consider himself a god, but he works hard to keep it that way. Eminem grooved, rapped, examined, drank water and repeated for two days in order to complete the "Rap God" video, which features Eminem spitting 97 words in a 15-second sequence.
"I'm always imagining shooting video, visualizing the picture," Eminem said on Wednesday. "What everything could, should look like. I'm always thinking about music videos and ideas, concepts. I do that for almost all of my songs."
The Marshall Mathers LP 2 will be released tomorrow. According to Eminem, the Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin-produced album is a "revisitation" to 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP, which Eminem sometimes considers his best album.
"I do get excited to make the music," Eminem said. "Obviously, I'm not the type to say I'm so excited to hear my shit, never been that kind of dude but I am excited about making the music, and I want people to hear it."
