Latin@s in Tech 2015 Summit to Target Latino-Owned Startups, Women in the Industry and Latina Entrepreneur Day
Latin@s in Tech has announced this year's Summit will focus on key lessons of Latino-owned startups, women in tech and the launch of the U.S. Latina Entrepreneur Day.
"During last year's Latin@s in Tech Summit we proved that Latinos in technology are innovators, creators and investors, established and emerging leaders in the tech and innovation economy. We look forward to continuing the conversation and taking it to the next level through this year's Summit," Kety Esquivel, founder of XelerateTech and the Tech Summit, said according to Hispanicize Wire.
Esquivel partnered with the Kapor Center for Social Impact in 2013 to organize the first Latin@s in Tech Summit, a one-day by-invitation event in 2014 for Latin America tech leaders. More than 100 investors, entrepreneurs, social change workers and media creators participated. Encouraged by the success of last year's event, Esquivel founded XelerateTech and committed to producing the Latin@s in Tech Summit in 2015.
"The beauty of the Latino Tech eco-system is that we are becoming more united. At the same time we also suffer the lack of visibility, access to capital and mentorship. XelerateTech efforts to have us join and create community in Austin is one that I personally support. As someone with a startup I am consistently busy. XelerateTech will allow me to engage in deep conversations with my fellow Latino Tech entrepreneurs giving us all a retreat from coding, designing and customer development," Deldelp Medina, CEO and co-founder of Avion Ventures said.
Efforts are being made to secure scholarships to inspire Latinos to work in the tech career field, according to XelerateTech.
XelerateTech connects established and emerging tech sector leaders by hosting events and outreach programs. Job creation, career advancement and skill development in the technology field are key focuses for the group.
The Latin@s in Tech Summit will be held at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, March 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (CDT). Tickets for the Summit are available for purchase through Eventbrite.
