While promoting his film, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," with Access Hollywood, Antonio Banderas also discussed his stepdaughter Dakota Johnson's starring role in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" film.

Banderas admitted that he was "proud" of Johnson and is confident she will continue to do well in Hollywood given the background and experience of talented members in her family.

"I got into the life of the girl when she was four-years-old and just to see her now, I'm so proud of her," Banderas said. "She knows very well what this career is all about. She has seen it in her father, in her mother and I suppose me too, [and in her] grandmother, so she [has] a tradition in Hollywood."

And though he admits he is proud of his stepdaughter, Banderas revealed he will not be rushing to see Johnson in theaters when "Fifty Shades of Grey" comes out on Valentine's Day.

"I don't think so. I probably will wait a little bit," he said.

Access Hollywood reports that Banderas took on the role of stepfather to Johnson when he married his now ex-wife, Melanie Griffith back in 1996.

Later in June 2014, the couple announced their decision to file for divorce.

But despite their divorce, Banderas recently revealed the two remain good friends and have love for one another.

"Life goes on," Antonio recently told Spanish TV show "El Hormiguero" about the divorce. "I admire and respect Melanie first and foremost as a great actress. I have always said that. And she's also the person that I loved, that I love, and will always love."

In a separate interview with Spanish magazine Hola, Banderas also revealed his plans to remain close contact with his other stepdaughter Stella.

"[Stella will] go to New York University next year, and I'll probably move there to be close," Banderas said. "She's an adult, 18, and I talk almost daily to her and the rest of my children, although not biological."

Banderas is currently linked to Dutch financial consultant Nicole Kimpel.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" hits theaters Feb. 13, 2015.
