Johnny Manziel had a rocky rookie season for the Cleveland Browns, and the young quarterback wants to correct his mistakes and decided to enter treatment on Wednesday, the team confirmed.

The Browns confirmed reports through a statement posted on their official website where Manziel's adviser, Brad Beckworth, said that the 22-year-old quarterback decided to undergo treatment in order to become a better person and a better player for Cleveland next season.

"Johnny knows there are areas he needs to improve on to help him be a better family member, friend and teammate, so he decided to take this step in his life during the offseason," Beckworth said in a statement. "On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

The Browns traded up in the 2014 NFL Draft to select Manziel as the 22nd overall pick in the hope of landing a franchise quarterback. Manziel started the season as Brian Hoyer's backup before eventually being named as starter later in the season.

Manziel, a former Heisman Trophy winner, completed just 18-of-35 passes for 175 yards with no touchdown and two interceptions in his short-lived stint as starter last season. But more than his struggles on the field, the former Texas A&M standout was involved in several controversies related to his lifestyle.

Late in the season, Manziel vowed to take his job seriously, but reportedly missed a walk-through just four days after making such statement. The Texas native allegedly partied and got drunk the night before the practice. Taking responsibility for his actions, Manziel said that he will back his words with action in the offseason.

"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process," Cleveland Browns manager Ray Farmer said of their quarterback. "Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns. We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player."

Reports also indicated that Manziel is starting to show improvements as Darren Rovell of ESPN revealed that Manziel turned down a lucrative offer to host a Super Bowl party in Las Vegas.
