Super Bowl 2015 Halftime Show: Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot Perform With Support From 'Roar' Singer's Ex Husband Russel Brand [Video]
If you missed the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, you might have missed the best 12-minute show of all time.
Katy Perry headlined the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show singing her popular hits "Roar," "Teenage Dream" and "Firework," among other medleys with Lenny Kravitz and rapper Missy Elliott, reports Huffington Post.
The eye-dazzling extravaganza began with Perry in a costume decorated with flames riding a mammoth robot-like tiger for a performance of "Roar," the hit single off her latest album, "Prism."
Her next song, "Dark Horse," was performed on a stage that resembled a chess board. Kravitz came on scene moments later with guitar in hand to belt out "I Kissed a Girl" with the dark-haired beauty.
"Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls" soon followed with Perry on a beach themed stage with dancing beach balls, sharks, palm trees, surf boards and bikini-clad dancers.
The audience was wowed by the energy behind Missy Elliott's "surprise" performance in which she and Perry performed her well-known hits "Get Ur Freak On" and "Work It."
Missy Elliott then performed her smash hit "Lose Control," a No. 3 hit on the Hot 100 chart, as Perry disappeared off stage to change costumes for the next segment.
The 43-year-old rap icon was granted a bigger Super Bowl platform than anyone could have imagined, especially for an artist who has not released an album since 2005. Missy Elliott's best-known singles were revived as iconic dance tracks at the Super Bowl.
Watching Missy Elliott seize the moment on the biggest stage in the world was thrilling, and the experience clearly left the rapper emotionally reeling as well.
"Woke up this morning feeling humbled! Thankful to God I Love all y'all I truly do I'm so humbled," she said via Twitter on Monday.
The rapper's post was soon followed by a second tweet.
"Tbh I didn't realize how much I was missed til last night. I'm crying y'all 4give me I just can't stop thanking God & y'all," Missy Elliot said.
Perry brought the halftime show to a close with a rendition of "Firework" which included a grand fireworks show and her flying above the crowd on a shooting star.
Before the halftime show, Perry discussed what performing during the Super Bowl meant to her.
"I just have heard so many stories along the way of those songs helping people and how they have adopted them as their inspiration," Perry told reporters. "And I think in some ways, I'll be performing maybe for the first time for some of these people. This might be the first time people see me ever performing, and I get to play these songs. And to me, they're very uplifting. So I just feel like in some ways it's a spiritual experience for me, a little bit."
Perry also received support from ex-husband Russell Brand before the halftime show,
"Super Bowl may be baffling to Brits but half time show will be amazing. Good luck KP," he tweeted.
