Cuban-American singer-songwriter and musician Jencarlos Canela is having a stellar year and now he's bringing his good looks, charm and talent to NBC.

Fresh off of becoming the first Latin artist to kick-off the world-renown Time Square New Year ball drop countdown, Canela is onto yet another exciting project -- he has been confirmed to star on NBC's new sitcom "Telenovela," which is created and produced by Eva Longoria, Universal Music Latino reports.

Canela, whose albums include both Spanish and English, will make his debut on English-language television on "one of the most important networks in the world, as he kicks off his crossover in to the general market."

The multi-faceted star will play a character much like himself -- "a like Latino bi-cultural, singer-songwriter, musician and actor," Universal Music Latino adds.

"I'm in love with this project, it's truly a dream come true when you can [do] what you love, alongside the people you admire," Canela said. "Thank you to NBC and Eva Longoria for this incredible opportunity."

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt explained that "'Telenovela' would offer a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the making of a telenovela," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The former "Desperate Housewives" actress, who also recently guest-starred in Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "will produce and star as a beautiful diva and star of a popular telenovela," Greenblatt said.

"'Telenovela' is a half-hour single-camera comedy series hailing from 'Cougar Town' co-executive producer Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein and Universal Television, where Longoria's Unbelievable Entertainment is under an overall deal," THR added.

"Longoria will star as Ana Maria, star of Latin America's most beloved telenovela, who strives to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared with what's happening off-screen."

"I am beyond excited not only to work with Jencarlos, but to see the doors that his crossover into American television opens! He's an amazing addition to the show!" Longoria said, according to Universal Music Latino.

For the 26-year-old Canela, his career has been on a serious high -- he already has more than 100 million views on VEVO/YouTube and over 8 million followers on his social networks.

He also has been working diligently for the past two years on his music career, involving the production and promotion in the U.S. and Latin America of his latest and third studio album "Jen," which features his hit singles "I Love It", "Irreparable" and "Tu Sombra."

After being crowned the winning coach of the first installment of Univision's prime-time music reality competition "Va Por Ti" (the show is currently airing in Mexico and Latin America), Canela will head north to share his sound. He will embark on the first leg of his 2015 North American tour, which will kick off on Feb. 6 at the Pearson Convention Center in Toronto, Canada.
