This week, Apple released firmware updates for its MacBook Pro 2013 with Retina display, both the 13-inch model and the 15-inch with NVIDIA graphics model.

The update for the 13-inch MacBook Pro fixes problems users experienced with the track pad and keyboard. MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.3 is a 4.64 MB download.

"This update addresses an issue where the built-in keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive," the update's patch notes say.

According to GottaBeMobile, the update succeeds in eliminating freezing.

"We installed the EFI Update v1.3 yesterday and have not experienced the freezing issues again," the website said. "These intermittent touchpad and keyboard freezing issues should be gone, but if you experience them again, close the lid of the MacBook Pro for one minute and it should fix the issue."

Meanwhile, the firmware update for the 15-inch MacBook Pro aims to fix issues with the laptop's discrete graphics processor. Macbook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.2 is a 5.22 MB download.

"This update addresses an issue which, in rare cases, may limit the performance of the discrete graphics processor after a system wake or boot," the update's patch notes say.

Both downloads are free and are available through the Apple website and the Mac App Store.

Mac Rumors reports that based on the use of the EFI updates, the issues were mostly like caused by a problem within the software, as opposed to a problem within the hardware.

Anyone who still experiences issues with their MacBook Pro after downloading the proper update is encouraged to contact Apple via its support forum.
