Getting to New York airports can be tough, especially when there is traffic or you are running late. Gotham Air has the answer: fly over the traffic.

Gotham Air is an on-demand app that lets travelers in New York request a helicopter ride to the airport. The service says you can get to the airport in as little as six minutes, Gizmodo reports.

The cost of a ride to the airport is usually about $219. Gotham Air is trying to cater to business travelers in New York City that can walk to Gotham Air's downtown Manhattan helipad.

Gotham Air has FAA-certified helicopter pilots who will take a minimum of four passengers (maximum of six) to either JFK or Newark Airport in lightning fast speed.

Currently, the choppers are running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but Gotham Air's CEO Tim Hayes wants the service to expand to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and eventually to 24 hours.

There is a catch with Gotham Air: When you go online to their website or through the app, you must ensure that your desired helicopter is going to fill up or your ride will not be guaranteed. Gotham Air uses color coding to help distinguish which rides are guaranteed and which need more passengers in order to take off.

Once you have successfully booked a flight on Gotham Air, you will need to head over to the helipad. You will be able to enjoy some snacks and cocktails in the VIP Lounge. Then, it is time to board your floor-to-ceiling windowed helicopter. To keep the noise away, you will be handed some Bose noise-canceling headphones.

Of course, you will see awesome views of New York as you quickly travel to the airport.

Gotham Air's website is not fully functional yet, but they have already invited BETA testers to use the site with special pricing. For first-time bookers using Gotham Air at either 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m., a special introductory, one-time price of $99 will be offered. The app and the website will be up very soon.

Finally, if the weather keeps your chopper grounded, Gotham Air will find a way to get you to the airport in style with a Tesla car.
