ABC 'The View' Cast Members: Rosie O'Donnell Talks Leaving TV Show, Split From Wife Michelle Rounds & Whoopi Goldberg
It's time of change in the life of TV talk host Rosie O'Donnell.
Having recently announced she had split from her wife Michelle Rounds, O'Donnell now tells The Hollywood Reporter her health is the central reason why she will soon be stepping down as a co-host on "The View."
According to O'Donnell, doctors were becoming increasingly concerned that the stress of doing the show could cause additional strain on her heart. O'Donnell previously suffered a heart attack several years ago.
"My health got a little bit worse right before the holidays," said the mother of four teenagers. "My doctor was kind of concerned. I can't really fix [my personal life] right away, but I can fix [my job]."
O'Donnell insists her well-documented icey relationship with fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg had nothing to do with her decision.
"Everyone cares about each other, nobody wants to do anything that's going to affect someone's health, so they get it," she said. "It's ok. Not everything works out as you planned, but you never know what's going to happen tomorrow."
O'Donnell said part of the reason she chose to be open and honest about struggles in her marriage stem from the ongoing troubles of NBA anchor Brian Williams. The veteran anchor remains under fire for a story he told apparently filled with mistruths about a 2003 helicopter ride in Iraq. Williams is now off the air while the network further investigates.
"All you have to do is go to Instagram," she said of staying abreast of the status of her and Rounds' relationship. "You can see she's not in the house with me. It's been since Thanksgiving. People are not idiots. I don't want to lie in front of people. I also needed some time, both of us, to figure it out."
"The View" also stars Rosie Perez and Nicole Wallace as regular panelists.
