'Arrow' Season 3, Episode 10 Recap & Episode 13 Spoilers: Executive Producer Teases Oliver's Struggle With Black Canary in 'Canaries' [Watch]
Fans of "Arrow" can look forward to an epic showdown when Laurel, who recently transitioned into the Black Canary, faces off with her sister Sara, the original Canary, on Wednesday.
Last week, Oliver returned to Starling City and found that Laurel had taken on the mantle of a vigilante while fighting crime as the Black Canary. Meanwhile, he was forced to adjust to working with his team again now that they have learned how to function without him. Oliver also bumped heads with Felicity, who declared that she doesn't want to be loved by a man who would team up with a villain like Malcolm Merlyn.
In the upcoming episode, "Canaries," Oliver will begin to accept Laurel's transformation and ask for her help in defeating Vertigo. However, Laurel will end up being drugged by Vertigo, which will cause her to hallucinate and believe she is fighting her sister, Sara, reports Comic Book.
In the meantime, the identities of the superheroes of Starling City will be at risk of being exposed. Thea will either come dangerously close to discovering her brother's true identity as Arrow or learn the full truth about him all together.
According to Screen Crush, the CW released a synopsis of Wednesday's "Canaries," which reads:
"Oliver (Stephen Amell) is thrown by the changes within Team Arrow. He's used to calling the shots but sees that the team has evolved in his absence and tensions quickly escalate in the lair.
"Oliver is furious that Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has been going out as the Black Canary and tells her to stop risking her life, but when Vertigo (guest star Peter Stormare) hits the streets again, Laurel goes against Oliver's wishes and tracks down Vertigo who hits her with a full dose of the drug. Laurel's biggest fears revolve around her sister Sara (guest star Caity Lotz) so the Vertigo causes her to hallucinate an epic fight between Canary and Black Canary.
"Meanwhile, Chase (guest star Austin Butler) surprises Thea (Willa Holland), and Roy (Colton Haynes) warns Thea to stay away from Malcolm (John Barrowman)."
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently opened up to TVLine about Season 3 of Arrow.
"Episode 13 kicks off the next piece of our story, and things get a really crazy from here on out," the showrunner said. "Episodes 13, 14 and 15 are probably the next 'book' or movement in the story, 15 ends with a game-changing twist, and from 16 to 23 it's just one crazy run up to the finish line.
"I'm really excited about where we're going mainly because, as I tweeted out, when all is said and done with Season 3, stabbing Oliver through the chest and kicking him off a cliff will end up being the least crazy thing we do all year. I encourage people to watch the whole season and then confirm whether or not I'm telling the truth."
The EP also teased what fans can expect in Wednesday's episode as Laurel continues her journey as the Black Canary.
"One big piece of Episode 13 is Laurel and all the things that she's been struggling with -- Sara's death, lying to Quentin, Oliver's disapproval of her being Black Canary. Meanwhile, you've got Oliver who has returned to Starling City and Team Arrow to discover that they have really moved on without him. So, things are not going to be as simple as, 'OK, guys I'm back! Everyone start listening to me again.' He's going to struggle with a brand-new team dynamic, one that is a lot more democratic than he is used to."
He went on to say that Oliver won't train Laurel anytime soon.
"He begins Episode 13 very much not approving, at all, of what Laurel's doing, so it's a long way to go from that to training her, which obviously implies a degree of validation."
Guggenheim continued, dropping hints about Episode 14, which he described as "a bit of a 'love letter' to the show. It stands on its own feet, for people who are new to the show, but if you've been watching since Season 1, it's got a ton of Easter eggs and little inside jokes."
The producer also said that fans should brace themselves for a big twist in Episode 15, "Nanda Parbat."
"Arrow" Season 3, Episode 13, "Canaries," airs on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
