Apple Watch Price & Release Date Rumors: CEO Tim Cook Teases Preventing Cancer, Using New Apps and Beating Competition With Smartwatch
Apple CEO Tim Cook is excited about his company's new smartwatch. He is so confident in the watch's features, that he even said it can keep users from developing cancer.
Yahoo Tech reports Cook said that even though Apple is not the first company to make a smartwatch, he believes the Apple Watch will be the best.
Cook spoke of competitors' smartwatches at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference Tuesday.
"There are several things that are called 'smartwatches' that are shipping, but I'm not sure you could name any," he said.
Apple plans to enter the smartwatch market with a splash by "changing the way you live your live," Cook said.
Cook explained that the watch could even save users' life from cancer by reminding him or her to stand up every hour.
"Because a lot of doctors believe that sitting is the new cancer, right?" Cook said.
Employees at Apple who already use the smartwatch are reminded at 10 minutes before the hour to stand up and move around. The watch will also help track exercise and activity.
Besides that, Apple's new smartwatch could even help diabetes suffers keep track of their glucose levels, thanks to a new app called Dexcom. The app is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Cook is excited about all the apps that will come out for the Apple Watch.
"The things third parties are working on? -- I'm super excited about," Cook said. "Just like when the App Store came out, and you remember the tagline, 'There's an app for that?' And the way you felt with your favorite apps, and so you're going to have a feeling like that.
Google's Android Wear watches have almost 200 apps available for their devices in the Google Play Store, and the Pebble watch has 4,200.
Cook believes that his watch will beat out competitors because of its capabilities.
"There's just an enormous number of things that it will do," Cook said, "and I think you're going to find it something that you're going to think, 'Wow, I can't live without this anymore!'"
The Apple Watch has a rumored March 2015 release date. When the smartwatch launched in 2014, Apple announced the Sport Watch model would cost $349 retail, but other variants have not yet been priced.
