The Golden State Warriors hold the best record in the league heading into the All-Star break, but reports indicated that they are still looking to shore up their roster to improve their title chances.

According to Tim Kawakami of San Jose Mercury News, the Warriors are interested in acquiring former All-Star forward Amar'e Stoudemire to improve their frontline.

The New York Knicks are reportedly trying to trade Stoudemire, but the Warriors are not expected to try to trade for the 32-year-old forward. Instead, the Warriors are waiting for the Knicks to reach a buyout agreement with Stoudemire and will try to sign him to a deal once he becomes a free agent.

Stoudemire, who is averaging 12.0 points to go along with 6.8 rebounds per game this season, has ties with Golden State. He previously played under assistant coach Alvin Gentry when they were still with the Phoenix Suns, and Warriors coach Steve Kerr was also a former Suns general manager.

However, the Warriors are expected to face stiff competition in the race to acquire Stoudemire should he hits free agency after reaching a buyout with the Knicks.

According to Jordan Schultz of Huffington Post, the Suns are also eyeing a reunion with their former power forward, who bolted out of Phoenix in 2010 to sign a five-year, $99.7 million contract with the Knicks.

The Suns, who are in a close race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, are also looking for another big man in order to improve their chances of making it into the postseason this year.

Schultz added Suns are considered as the frontrunners should they try to lure Stoudemire. Before the Suns emerged as favorites to acquire the 13-year-veteran, the Dallas Mavericks were also mentioned as a potential destination for Stoudemire.

The Mavericks, who are currently in fifth place in the Western Conference standings with their 36-19 record, are also eyeing free-agent center Jermaine O'Neal. ESPN reported that they are prepared to make roster spot for both Stoudemire and O'Neal if both players decide to move to Dallas later in the season.

Stoudemire, who is playing in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, told Yahoo Sports earlier this month that he will likely decide about his future after the All-Star break.
