So many fans are anticipating "Star Wars: Episode VII," and director J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot gave them the first glimpse at pre-production plans for the upcoming film in the franchise.
Bad Robot took Twitter on Wednesday to post a behind-the-scenes photo featuring the director and LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy alongside the classic character R2-D2 on the set of the iconic series. The snap was accompanied by a tweet that read, "Hi from the workshop! #StarWarsVII."
Although the image does not reveal any information about the plot, it at least confirms J.J. Abrams' set return to the "Star Wars" saga with the iconic droid R2-D2, which certainly is a great news to the fans who have been hoping R2-D2 and his robot friend C-3PO might appear in "Episode VII."
Actor Kenny Baker played R2-D2, while Ben Burtt was credited with making the veteran robot's iconic noises and squeaks. Burtt also created Darth Vader's heavy breathing. R2-D2, an astromech droid, has appeared in all six of the motion picture series since its inception in 1977.
J.J. Abrams has been drafted to screenwrite with "Empire Strikes Back" writer Lawrence Kasdan.
"I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script," Kennedy said in a statement at the time of the announcement.
The forthcoming film is expected to reunite the original trio of stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, and it is scheduled to begin shooting in spring of 2014. "Star Wars: Episode VII" will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
