Washington, IL Tornado Leaves 2 Dead, About 40 Injured
A strong and fast storm visited numerous tornadoes upon Indiana and Washington, IL that took the lives of two individuals and left about 40 injured. The Washington, Il tornado flattened most parts of the affected place, according to Huffington Post.
Reuters reported that the storm became all the way too strong it cancelled the game of the Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens as fans among the audience were instructed to go for protective shelter. Even the major airports in Chicago were also put under a tornado watch.
The Midwest tornado left severe damage in several communities which sent families down to their basements for their own safety, The Guardian reported. One of the Washington, Il residents told AP that the tornado came like a huge visitation of daylight and it just took a snap before he saw his house all gone and the entire neighborhood too.
Just like the recent aftermath left by the super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the storm in Illinois also left communications system down. Several photos that emerged showed homes all ripped open and even the bigger constructions were turned to rubble.
The tornado touched down in the southwest part of Chicago at around 11 in the morning and lasted for 10 minutes, the Peoria Journal Star stated. At just around 2:30 p.m. there were 37 victims injured and treated while the coroner of Washington County was the one who confirmed the death of an old man together with his sister in a farmhouse within New Minden.
According to the NWS's Storm Prediction Center, the storm moved extremely fast and tracked towards east at 97kph. The officials and authorities assigned said that the proper tornado warnings were given ahead of time especially for Indiana and Kentucky. Residents were advised to seek safety in the low floored rooms in their house or buildings, like the basement.
