CBS Stevie Wonder Tribute Concert Includes Surprises From Singer's Daughter, Ne-Yo, Beyonce Knowles, Ed Sheeran and More [Video]
Beyonce, alongside Ed Sheeran and Gary Clark Jr., took part in a heartfelt and incredible performance during the Stevie Wonder Tribute on CBS Monday night.
The nine-minute performance was part of a larger performance that included various celebrities like Lady Gaga and Babyface.
The Grammy’s tribute for the veteran singer, “Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life -- An All Star Grammy Salute,” reached its peak with Beyonce’s performance in which she energized the audience and performed alongside Ed Sheeran and Gary Clark Jr. The singer performed "Fingertips," "Master Blaster (Jammin')" and "Higher Ground." The aforementioned musicians joined Beyonce on the stage as the crowd stood up clapping and singing along.
However, this was not the only surprise Wonder experienced during the show. According to USA Today, Ne-Yo’s performance during the show included Wonder’s daughter Aisha Morris, a surprise by the producers for Wonder.
Host LL Cool J also asked audience members to close their eyes and simulate what life is like for Wonder, who is blind.
“Who has done more to help us see the abilities of people who are blind than Stevie Wonder? … So, tonight, at Stevie’s request, we take you into his world,” LL Cool J said.
The emotional tribute was filmed two days after the Grammy’s brought all stars together and had performances from Pharrell, Annie Lennox, Ed Sheeran, Tony Bennett, Babyface, Lady Gaga and Andrea Bocelli, reports The Associated Press.
In a phone interview with the AP before the show, Wonder talked about what the tribute means to him.
“I feel thankful to God, first and foremost, allowing me to enjoy this 'smell the roses' kind of thing. All I ever wanted to do was music, and all I've ever asked, as I've gotten to know and discover the world more, is that God would use me in any way to encourage and inspire love and inspire people to bring and give love to each other,” he said.
“I've always asked to be able to speak and write about injustice and to do it in a way that would encourage people to make things better for everyone.”
