Vanilla Ice Arrested: 'Ice, Ice Baby' Rapper Ice Charged With Burglary, Grand Theft While Working on Reality TV Show in Lantana, Florida
"Ice, Ice Baby" rapper Vanilla Ice has been arrested on burglary and grand theft charges in Florida.
According to TMZ, the rapper is accused of stealing furniture, a pool heater, bicycles and other valuables from a vacant home in the area of a home he was working to renovate in Lantana. All of the property is reportedly related to his latest TV venture, "The Vanilla Ice Project" reality show.
Police reportedly obtained a search warrant and have recovered some of the items, which presumably they have been able to connect to Vanilla Ice, born Robert Van Winkle.
Vanilla Ice also bumped heads with some area residents late last year after they learned he and his crew had removed several trees from the Hypoluxo Island property he purchased for the purposes of his show. Among the trees removed were several live oaks, which is prohibited in the area. Ultimately, Vanilla Ice was issued a citation, with Town Manager Debbie Manzo vowing, "They'll have to go before code enforcement."
"The Vanilla Ice Project premiered on DIY Network several years ago. On the show, the 47-year-old one-time rap star buys property, renovates it and then sells it at a profit. Ice purchased the 15-year-old Hypoluxo Island property for $1.4 million. His broker, James Arena, recently told reporters they expect to net at least $3.4 million for the home at sale.
In 2008, Ice was arrested at his Florida home in the wake of a domestic altercation with his wife. Palm Beach County police took him into custody after he allegedly pushed his wife, Laura, at the height of their argument.
In 1990, "Ice, Ice Baby" topped the Billboard charts for a time, but the rapper never again came close to achieving that level of success through his music. Over the years, he told reporters he got his stage name from combining his nickname "Vanilla" with the name of one of his breakdance moves, the "Ice."
