Pacquiao vs Rios Fight Preview: 'Clash in Cotai' Could be Biggest Fight in Asia
On Sunday, Nov. 28, the fighter of the decade and Philippines congressman Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will face former world champion Brandon "Bam" Rios in a 12 round welterweight fight at the Cotai Arena in Macao. The fight is expected to be the biggest and most spectacular fight in Asia.
According to the Venetian Macao website, "The Clash in Cotai" will be the first fight of Pacquiao outside the USA since his 2006 victory over former world champion Oscar Larios in the Philippines. The site also notes that Rios has been hailed as one of the most exciting fighters in the industry. This will only be his second venture outside the USA since beating Ricardo Dominquez in Mexico in 2008.
Coach Freddie Roach noted that Pacquiao had an amazing final training session, and the fighter was throwing some of the best punches ever, reports MP8.ph. Roach predicted a knock out within 6 rounds, but now seems to think Rios can fall in the fourth.
"Manny's last training session was nothing short of amazing. We were supposed to do six rounds on the mitts and I cut it off after four rounds. They were the best four rounds of mitts I have ever done with Manny. He was blazing. He was throwing the heat," the coach noted in a Nov. 18 post on MP8.ph. "I know I predicted that Manny would knock Rios out inside six rounds but based on our last workout, I don't see how Rios makes it past the fourth round."
Known for his legendary speed and agility, the powerful southpaw may be the undoing of Ross who has yet to meet such a heavy puncher, Manny Pacquiao's website noted on another Nov. 18 post. However, Brandon Rios notes that noone should take him lightly, definitely not Manny.
"Nobody is giving me credit. Freddie Roach, he apparently thinks I'm some kind of [expletive] pushover. Well, believe me, I'm going to prove to Freddie Roach and everyone else that I'm no pushover. If they picked me because they thought I was easy, they made a bad mistake," Rios said, reports Yahoo!
The fight will be the main bout and the highlight of the evening, with 10 other fights at the venue. The fighters' official weigh-in ceremony will be on the 23rd at 7.30 am in the Cotai Arena.
The Cotai Arena can seat 13,500 fans in all conditions and its unique 360-degree seating arrangement allows undisturbed viewing. The arena is part of the Venetian Macao-resort hotel.
