Eminem Zane Lowe Interview Pt. 1: Rapper 'Nervous' to Work With Rick Rubin
Eminem, who recently has successfully released his eighth studio album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" with its impressive first-week sales and chart-topping records, had an one-on-one sit-down with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe for a four-part interview, which the first part was released.
Eminem explained that some of the topics he addressed on his previous projects are revisited and reflected on his latest album, "MMLP2." He described all of his albums as snapshots of his life.
"Yeah, I mean, some of the themes and topics and things like that are revisited on this album," said Slim Shady. "But at the same time, I feel like it's kind of a 2013 version. All my albums, I think for the most part, pretty much tell where I'm at on each one at that time period or whatever. So, this is kind of like - there's a lot of reflecting and things like that back on everything that was happening during that time, you know? And it's kind of like me reflecting on it and getting to the point where I am now with it."
The Detroit rapper has been saying about "MMLP2" being a "revisitation" of his sophomore album in 2000. However, Em said he couldn't bring back one specific character that played the of role of connecting back to the original "The Marshall Mathers LP."
"I had heard a lot of chatter around the time of the 'Recovery' record that I should to 'Stan 2,'" he said. "All I kept thing was, 'well, Stan's dead.' He died in the story. So in the back of the mind, I kind of had an idea of who could be left in the story. But I had to get the right beat."
In addition, Eminem opened up about being hesitant and intimidated to work with Rick Rubin, the Def Jam Records co-founder and a co-executive producer of "MMLP2" alongside Dr. Dre.
"I had my reservations just because I felt like I would probably be - I'm a super fan of Rick, so I'd probably be a little nervous and I don't know what the vibe would be because I would be wanting to impress him," said the "Rap God." "You know what I'm saying? So, it was very much kind of like the feeling that I got early on with Dre... So, I was nervous to meet him and even more nervous to work with."
