'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Cast & News: Dakota Johnson & Matthew Hitt Reportedly Broke Up Because of Movie
"Fifty Shades of Grey" actress Dakota Johnson has reportedly split from her boyfriend, Matthew Hitt, because of the film, the Hollywood Life reports.
The film's strong sexual content and rumors that Johnson was dating her "Fifty Shades of Grey" co-star, Jamie Dornan, eventually led to the couple's breakup.
"[Matthew] hated that she took the film," a source said. "He hated all the talk and rumors that she was in a relationship with Jamie [Dornan] but that was obviously all in his head."
The Hollywood Life claims another reason for the couple's breakup was Johnson's busy schedule filming the S&M movie and then her continuous traveling schedule to promote the release of the film.
"[Dakota] would have mourned the break up more but keeping busy got her through it," the source said. "She misses the good times but it really doesn't look like they will get back together."
Us Magazine reports Johnson and Hitt had been dating for six months and then split over the recent holiday season.
During their relationship, Johnson and Hitt were low key and made little mention of the romance to the public.
However, the Daily Mail reports Johnson did mention the overwhelming nature of the film in her past interview with Vogue.
"It's just the most insane thing to be a part of," Dakota said. "I've never experienced anything like this; I don't think anyone has. It's terrifying -- and it's exciting."
In addition to Hitt, Johnson's stepfather, Antonio Banderas, was also uncomfortable with the content of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Banderas admitted to being proud of Johnson but revealed he was in no rush to see the film.
"I got into the life of the girl when she was four-years-old and just to see her now, I'm so proud of her," Banderas said. "She knows very well what this career is all about. She has seen it in her father, in her mother and I suppose me too, [and in her] grandmother, so she [has] a tradition in Hollywood."
