50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast Rumors & Release Date: Charlie Hunnam Still Says He's Too Busy
Some still speculate that Charlie Hunnam quitting the Fifty Shades of Grey movie because of an "immersive TV schedule" was a cover-up. According to a recent interview, however, "Sons of Anarchy" is quite demanding.
During a promotional interview for Pacific Rim acquired by Entertainmentwise, Hunnam admitted that his role as Jax Teller in the FX's "Sons of Anarchy" has prevented him from taking on other roles.
"I have missed out on a load of huge opportunities because I couldn't make myself available due to ["Sons of Anarchy,"] Hunnam said.
Could the Pacific Rim actor be referring to Fifty Shades of Grey?
Hunnam was originally cast as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel, but on Oct. 12, Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced that Hunnam would no longer portray the S&M-loving businessman because of his "immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
Still, Hunnam remains grateful for the doors that "Sons of Anarchy" has been able to open.
"But then I wouldn't have probably got those opportunities if it wasn't for the show, anyway," Hunnam continued. "So I just remain very, very grateful and positive about it."
Hunnam has since been replaced by Jamie Dornan.
"I don't really know his work, but I know [director of Fifty Shades of Grey Sam Taylor-Johnson] is amazing, and she has fantastic taste," Hunnam said yesterday. "So I'm sure he'll do a great job."
When asked who he would pick as his Christian Grey, Hunnam responded confidently with "I'm sure she made a great choice."
The actor declined to name his pick for Anastasia Steele, who is being portrayed by Dakota Johnson.
Fifty Shades of Grey premieres Feb. 13, 2015, without Hunnam.
