Pebble Smartwatch vs Apple Watch Specs, Apps & Release Date: Pebble Debuts Pic of New Smartwatch, Appers to Feature Color Screen
Pebble will be releasing a new smartwatch Tuesday. One day before its release, Pebble posted a picture of what the device will look like, and from the picture, it will have a color screen.
According to TechCrunch, this will be Pebble's third smartwatch in three years, and this one is expected to be much different than the first two.
The next Pebble smartwatch will have a larger bezel and smaller buttons on the sides and be thinner than the current Pebble. Even though the next Pebble smartwatch will have a color e-ink screen, the battery life will be similar to the original Pebble smartwatch.
Inside the next Pebble will be a Cortex M4 processor and a 6-axis gyroscope.
Unlike the upcoming Apple Watch, the next Pebble will not have a touchscreen. Instead it will have buttons on the side to control the device. Additionally, the resolution on the next Pebble will not be able to match Apple's screen resolution.
New to the Pebble will be a built-in microphone and a brand new operating system. The new operating system will be based on timeline view. The timeline will show recent notifications on the user's Pebble.
Apps designed by third parties will still work with the next Pebble.
According to 9to5Mac, the initial sales of the next Pebble will come Kickstarter and will not be available in stores or on Pebble's official website.
Pricing for the next Pebble is not yet known but it should be lower than the Apple Watch, which wil be sold for $349. The second-generation Pebble Steel sells for $199, which means the next Pebble will likely sell for about $250.
