Chris Kyle Widow Taya Writes Emotional Post, 'American Sniper' Movie Wins Little at Academy Awards 2015 [Pics]
Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" movie, starring Bradley Cooper as real-life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, was nominated for six Oscars but received only one Oscar for Best Sound Editing.
The movie has been a tremendous hit at the box office since it was released on Dec. 25, 2014, grossing through Sunday $319.6 million in North America and $108.6 million internationally for an astonishing total of $428.1 million, reports Hollywood Reporter.
The earnings far exceed any other Best Picture contender, including winner "Birdman," which has grossed $76.5 million worldwide.
"American Sniper" was also nominated for five other Oscars: Best Adapted Screenplay, which it lost to fellow nominee "The Imitation Game," as well as Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role (Bradley Cooper), Film Editing and Sound Mixing.
The film is based on the book "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," depicting Kyle's life as a Navy Seal sniper before he was killed in 2013 by fellow veteranEddie Ray Routh.

Kyle's widow Taya Kyle attended the 87th Annual Academy Awards. Though she smiled and looked glamorous wearing an emerald green gown on the red carpet, Taya expressed her true feelings about the awards show hours earlier on Facebook.
"So, I am always real with you," she wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to her husband. "Today is no different... I have a pounding headache and woke up from intermittently sleeping and having nightmares about the evils of the world. And yet, I am in beautiful Southern California courtesy of Warner Brothers who have been exceptional to work with in every aspect. Turns out they are like the fairy GodMother for a regular woman who has kids, a murder trial for her beloved and dear friend and am honestly exhausted."
