A single mother of four children is now North Carolina's biggest Powerball winner, ABC News reports.

Marie Holmes showed her winning ticket to lottery officials and was interviewed by the media. Holmes will receive one third of the $564.1 million Powerball jackpot.

"This is going to make a huge difference for them," Holmes said of her children. "They are going to be able to go to school and not worry about paying for it. they are going to live a comfortable life without struggling." 

Holmes told reporters she plans to continue her education in the nursing field but still wants to help care for her children at home.

Holmes will use financial advisers to guide her with the large amount of money she will soon have. She plans to travel, give some money to a church and donate some money to a cerebral palsy charity. One of her children has cerebral palsy.

"I hope that this moment can shine a light on the challenges faced by children and adults with cerebral palsy," Holmes said. "Not everyone understands what cerebral palsy is, and what it means to a family. I hope our story can help change that." 

The prize for the Powerball can be delivered in annuity payments totaling $188 million or a lump sum of $127 million. Holmes is choosing the lump sum payment.

Holmes is the first of the three winners to publicly announce winning. A winner in Puerto Rico has decided to remain anonymous and the winner in Texas has not came forward yet.

"I'm still processing it. It's really not hit me yet," Holmes said.

"I scared my kids because I was jumping up and down so much," Holmes said recalling the moment she realized she had won. "They ran away from me." 

Holmes will travel to New York and appear on "Good Morning America" Tuesday morning, WTVD in Raleigh, North Carolina reports.
