Oscars 2015 Ratings & Review: Academy Awards Host Neil Patrick Harris Jokes About Being Called Not Funny on Twitter Account
On Monday, Feb. 23, Neil Patrick Harris tweeted a cheeky response to his harsh Oscars awards hosting criticism, Us Weekly reports.
Check out Harris' tweet below.
In his tweet, Harris seemingly acknowledged his lackluster hosting performance but made light of the matter by joking that his good jokes for the Oscars went missing because he shattered his iPhone.
Though Harris is able to laugh at his Oscars miss, his critics aren't as amused. Following his hosting performance at this year's Oscars, critics and social media users slammed Harris for being less than funny at the award ceremony.
"Sometimes ... the organism that is the Oscars is bigger than the host, and Harris seemed to lose his grip on it, thanks largely to some badly written material," Time's James Poniewozik wrote of the star. "Harris is nothing if not game, but he often seemed disconnected from the limp material."
In addition to media critics, social media users also chimed in to discuss Harris' unappealing performance and jokes/ Check out some of the tweets below.
To had insult to injury, Us Weekly claims this year's Oscars ceremony had very low television ratings. Broadcast ratings fell almost 16 percent with only 36.6 million viewers. Twitter users also seemed to be less interested about this year's show as the tweet interactions about the Oscars reportedly fell by 47 percent from last year.
Prior to his Oscars hosting debut, Harris spoke with Z100 back in October about his fear of hosting Hollywood's biggest night, Us Weekly reports.
"I've been in the hosting world for a little while and the Oscars has been that show that I was terrified to take on, but had never been asked to do," he said. "I'm reticent because I've always thought and said it's the big target and as exciting as it is it's potentially lose-lose in various ways because it's just such a big show."
