The next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" will be very interesting now that Caroline has flipped her humanity switch off, Bonnie has returned to Mystic Falls and Damon discovered that his mother is trapped in another dimension. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until March 12 for the premiere of the all-new episode.

A number of dramatic changes and twists took place in last week's episode, "Let Her Go," as Sheriff Liz Forbes was laid to rest and Damon delivered a moving eulogy at her funeral. Instead of coping with the pain of losing her mother, Caroline made a conscious decision to shut down her emotions and turn off feelings toward humanity. She also snapped Elena's neck when Elena tried to convince her to deal with her grief in a healthy manner.

Meanwhile, Stefan figured out that he has sincere romantic feelings for Caroline. However, just when he was about to share his feelings with her, he discovered Elena's lifeless body in Caroline's home.

In addition, Damon and Stefan's mother was introduced on the show after Damon discovered that she is trapped in another prison world. Plus, Alaric and Jo got engaged after Jo gave her power to Kai and realized that she is pregnant.

A preview of the upcoming episode, titled "The Downward Spiral," reveals that Caroline will put her friends on a chase when she shows off her wild and dark side. Stefan, who helped contribute to her downward spiral, will try to intervene, but that will set off a dangerous sequence of events.

During an interview with TVLine, actress Candice Accola opened up about Caroline's budding romance with Stefan.

"I loved the progression of the Stefan-Caroline relationship. I love that it's been such a slow burn, and I love that [their first kiss] wasn't this aggressively dramatic moment; it was just really sweet and tender and the sun was setting. They didn't need to start ripping each other's clothes off," she said.

According to Wet Paint, the synopsis reads as follows:

"After shutting off her humanity following the death of her mother, Caroline gives her friends an unexpected ultimatum. Not knowing how to handle the new Caroline, Stefan's attempt to intervene sets off a dangerous chain of events, leaving him and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in a race against the clock. Meanwhile, after seeking answers from Kai about the prison world, Damon's world is turned upside when he learns some devastating news about his mother Lily. Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself becoming increasingly intrigued by Sarah Salvatore (Tristin Mays), and Bonnie begins to struggle with the effects of being back in the real world."

Season 6, Episode 15 of "The Vampire Diaries," titled "The Downward Spiral," will air Thursday, March 12 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
