Former world champion Bernard Hopkins believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. will dominate Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming fight on May 2 at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hopkins said in an interview with Fighthype that fans will enjoy an action-packed bout in the first six rounds, but the fight will turn into a one-sided affair from the seventh round onwards.

The 50-year-old pointed out that Pacquiao could challenge Mayweather in the early rounds with his aggressiveness and speed, but Hopkins does not think the Filipino champion's defensive skills will be enough to stand toe-to-toe with Mayweather in a 12-round fight.

"The first 5 or 6 rounds, it's going to be a back and forth fight because of Pacquiao's aggression," Hopkins said. "But Pacquiao is not the best defensive fighter. Mayweather is going to sharp shoot, and not only is Mayweather going to fight back when he needs to, but after that 6th round, it's done."

The upcoming Pacquiao vs Mayweather is expected to set boxing records in terms of revenue as fight fans have been calling out both boxing superstars to face each other over the past five years.

Hopkins is glad that the super fight will finally happen, but the former light heavyweight champion warned that fans might get disappointed because it will be a lopsided bout in favor of Mayweather. He said the second half of the fight could look like a target practice for the reigning pound-for-pound king.

"I believe the second half of these 12 rounds gonna be target practice for Floyd," Hopkins said. "And it's going to be a situation where, is he putting a show on just so people can get their monies worth or is it just that easy. That's my bold statement and I stick by it, now let's wait 8 to 9 weeks and see what happens."

If there is one thing that fight fans should be excited about, Hopkins said that it is the fact that the biggest fight in boxing will finally take place because it could lead to more huge bouts in the future between fighters who are under rival companies.

"The fans have spoken and they delivered. It's better late than never," Hopkins added. "Enjoy the super fight, our Super Bowl of fights this year, and this is the beginning, I hope, of big fights to come, whether it's Golden Boy or any other promotional outlet."
