Disney ‘Frozen 2' Movie Sequel, Cast & Release Date Rumors: Elsa and Anna Return With New Song by 'Let It Go' Writers in New 'Frozen Fever' Film [Watch]
"Frozen" garnered record-breaking box office success, and fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel for over a year, despite predictions that Disney will not make a second installment.
On Thursday, however, Disney revealed the beloved "Frozen" characters are returning when the studio released the trailer for a new short film, "Frozen Fever."
The trailer is a sneak peek at Princess Elsa and Princess Anna's latest adventure. The plot centers on Princess Anna's birthday. Princess Elsa prepares for Anna's birthday party but catches a cold that quickly complicates everything; Elsa with a cold could wreak a little havoc on the entire land.
"It's another side of Elsa the audience hasn't seen before and we hadn't really played with in the original feature," the film's co-director Chris Buck said of the plot, according to Mirror.
While the seven-minute film is not a full-length sequel, it gives us more "Frozen" fun, like the lovable Olaf who tries to steal some of Princess Anna's birthday cake.
The mini-sequel includes the new song "Perfect Day" written by husband and wife Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. They wrote the Oscar-winning song "Let It Go" from the first film. Get ready, because adults and children alike will be singing it once the fan film hits theaters.
The original voice cast is back, including Idina Menzel (Elsa), Kristen Bell (Anna), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff) and Josh Gad (Olaf), as well as directors Buck and Jennifer Lee.
The animated short is exciting, but fans are still asking: "Will there be a 'Frozen 2'?"
Bell, who voices Princess Anna, offered the most honest answer she could about a possible sequel during an interview with Bustle last week.
"They haven't green-lighted it yet," she told Bustle. "There is so much speculation, mostly because people have wanted it so bad. They've read into quotes or otherwise. They definitely have not green-lit it. I would really hope they do, as all of our cast members would love to be involved. We're twiddling our thumbs and trying to nudge them in the right direction."
"Frozen Fever" premieres in the U.S. on March 13 alongside the new Kenneth Branagh's animated retelling of "Cinderella" starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett.
