On Friday, Feb. 27, Michelle Rodriguez made some controversial comments to TMZ about minority actors playing superhero roles.

TMZ caught up with the "Fast & Furious" actress and asked whether she was taking on the role of the Green Lantern, to which she replied no. She then continued her statement with expressing her belief that minorities shouldn't play white superheroes.

"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," Rodriguez said about playing the Green Lantern. "Because of this whole 'minorities in Hollywood' thing ... It's so stupid. Stop stealing all the white people's superheroes. Make up your own."

Following her comment to TMZ, social media users took to Twitter to slam the Latina actress for her opinion. She then apologized for what she said through a Facebook video, the Huffington Post reports.

Time adds that Rodriguez apology seemed a bit half-hearted; however she did say she was sorry for speaking "without a filter" and clarified she would rather see writers and producers create more original roles for minorities.

"I want to clarify about my comment yesterday. I stuck my foot in my mouth once again, and I said that people should stop trying to steal white people superheroes," she said. "I guess it got taken out of context because a lot of people got offended ... but I have a tendency to speak without a filter, so sorry about that."

She continued, "I'm just saying that instead of trying to turn a girl character into a guy or instead of trying to turn a white character into a black character or Latin character, I think that people should stop being lazy, and that people should actually make an effort in Hollywood to develop their own mythology."
