ABC officially announced Cecilia Vega and Tom Llamas as anchors for weekend show "World News Tonight." Their first show will be March 7, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Vega joined ABC back in 2011. She has covered many different topics in the news including President Barack Obama's inauguration, the Olympics in London and the Occupy Wall Street protests. Prior to coming to ABC, Vega worked for a newspaper in San Francisco covering city hall.

Vega's transition to broadcast journalism brought her more experience, such as heading to Italy to cover the new pope. 

"I am always surprised at how wide ranging my assignments are. ... I truly believe I have one of the best jobs in the world," Vega told Voxxi in 2013.

Vega switches from a Los Angeles correspondent to an anchor in New York. 

"We're very grateful that she'll be making the jump from the West Coast to New York City for this new role as anchor and senior national correspondent," ABC News chief James Goldston said in a memo to staff.

Llamas has only been with ABC for five months, but according to Goldston he quickly made his mark. Llamas reported from Dallas on the Ebola breakout. He also reported on a tragic death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland and the shooting deaths of three Muslim students in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Before joining ABC, Llamas was a co-anchor for NBC 4 in New York. His contributions to the breaking news reports of Superstorm Sandy earned him a Murrow Award. He also has reported from Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake and the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Vega and Llamas will also help provide 2016 political coverage as the presidential election begins to take shape.
