Suge Knight Hospitalized: Former Death Row Records CEO Tells Judge Lack of Medical Treatment May Make Him Go Blind
Jailed former Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight was hospitalized again and now fears he may be going blind.
TMZ.com reports Knight spoke on his own behalf during a Monday afternoon court appearance in California after firing both of his lead attorneys. Knight told the judge his eyes are deteriorating because of a lack of medical treatment since he's been incarcerated. After the day's proceedings were over, court officials escorted him to a prison infirmary.
Doctors recently told Knight his eyesight was quickly going bad. He was previously hospitalized after suffering a panic attack last month and before that was rushed to the hospital related to injuries he suffered in a shooting nearly a year ago.
The 49-year-old Knight has been held without bail since January on murder and attempted murder charges after being taking into custody for plowing his SUV into Terry Carter, 55, and Cle "Bone" Sloan, 51. Carter later died of his injuries, and Knight claims he only struck the men in self-defense after he was allegedly attacked.
The Los Angeles Times reports that while wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and big-rimmed glasses, Knight told Judge James Brandlin, "Since I have been here, I've lost about 30 pounds. I can't really see. I can't really comprehend what's going on."
In an unrelated case, Knight also faces charges stemming from a 2014 incident where he and comedian Katt Williams were accused of taking a celebrity photographer's camera.
The judge later ordered all of Knight's future hearings, including the photographer case, to be held in downtown Los Angeles to cut down on stress for courtroom staffers and on Knight's transportation.
