Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2013 - Live Streaming, Route Map, Program Schedule and Starting Times
We are just days away from the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, but it appears that blustery weather could be a factor.
Previous years have shown that high winds can cause all sorts of disruptions at the parades and the parade organizers said they would be keeping an eye on the weather in advance of the anticipated Thanksgiving morning festivities.
The concerns do not come without reason and have become a growing issue in recent years. According to NBC News, two sisters were hurt in 2005 by the M&M's Chocolate Candies balloon after it was caught up with a street lamp while two others were injured in 1997 after the Cat in the Hat balloon crashed into a pole.
Weather-related rules were set in 1998 stating that the limit for flying balloons is 23 miles per hour winds and 34 miles per hour gusts; the winds at this year's event are currently expected to be up to 20 miles per hour.
The parade, which extends from 77th street and Central Park West to Herald Square, is 2.5 miles in length.
This year is expected to be another exciting morning of entertainment as Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, The Goo Goo Dolls, Gavin McGraw, and Fall Out Boy are among those that will be performing in addition to the marching bands and other school groups.
It is predicted that more than 3.5 million people will be present at the event to watch the parade, which has now existed for 87 years.
NBC will have live coverage of the event and the parade is expected to start at 9 p.m. ET.
