PS4 vs. Xbox One Reviews, Specs, News: Microsoft Pays $90 More Than Sony to Assemble Game Conosle, Report Says
Perhaps the hefty price tag on the Xbox One is worth it, after all.
According to tech website AllThingsD, a research firm took apart the entire Xbox One game console and did some heavy digging to conclude that the game console costs around $90 more to build than the Playstation 4. The combined cost of the Xbox One is $471 as opposed to the $381 that it costs to create the Playstation 4.
If anything, this news could be a huge boost for Microsoft as the company looks to defend its extra $100 price tag. The console currently costs $499 while its rival, the PS4, is much easier on the wallet at $399.
Some of the significant differences included a $75 Kinect camera that is built inside the console and the AMD chip that costs $110. The AMD chip in the Playstation 4 is said to cost about $10 less. Additional costs that are strictly exclusive to the Xbox 360 include a $25 external power supply.
Microsoft received a great deal of criticism early on as many critics boasted that the company had no reason to make the game console that much more expensive than its counterpart. The two rival game consoles have gone neck to neck in the early going as both tallied more than $1 million in sales within 24 hours of release. Granted, the Xbox One was for sale in more countries but it was still an impressive feat for both parties.
The Playstation 4 hit the shelves on Nov. 15 while the Xbox One was released on Nov. 22.
