A crime lab scientist took the stand in the murder trial of former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez on Friday, testifying that Hernandez's DNA was on a marijuana cigarette that was found at a 2013 murder scene.

Hernandez is currently on trial for the shooting death of his friend Odin Lloyd -- who was dating Hernandez's fiancée's sister at the time -- in the early morning hours of June 17, 2013.

According to prosecutors, Hernandez and two co-defendants, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, picked Lloyd up in a rented Nissan Altima and then drove him "to a secluded, isolated area in North Attleborough," Massachusetts, said Bristol County prosecutor Patrick Bomberg. "There Odin Lloyd was shot six times. He was killed, and he was left in a secluded area," he added, reports The Boston Globe. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Diane Fife Biagiotti, of the state police crime lab, told jurors on Friday that both Hernandez and Lloyd's DNA was found on rolling paper from a 2-inch-long cigarette butt, which was recovered near the victim's bullet-riddled body.

"I did a comparison between the profile I deduced and the profile of Aaron Hernandez," Biagiotti told the prosecutor, reports The Associated Press. "I found that the profile from Aaron Hernandez matched the deduced DNA profile."

She added that statistical analysis determined the likelihood the DNA belonged to someone else is more than one in a quadrillion.

Earlier this week, T-Mobile employee Raymond MacDonald testified on Tuesday that Hernandez exchanged a series of text messages and phone calls in the days and hours before 27-year-old was killed. MacDonald also said that the NFL player tried to arrange a meeting with the victim via text message hours before the slaying, reports the Associated Press.

Although Hernandez had deleted his messages with Lloyd from his phone, the messages were recovered from Lloyd's phone.
